Expectations
I am very excited for this trip. I think I will get to learn a lot of new things. It should be a fun trip, and it might be able to help me understand the Civil War a little more.
Fort Sumter

Richmond, Va
On this day I went top Richomond, Virginia. This was the Capital city of the Confederate States. In the movie, Jonas said "Grant's taken Richmond."
Wilderness/Fredericksburg
This day I went to Spotsylvania, Virginia. This was near the location of the Battle of the Wilderness. The Battle of the Wilderness was fought on May 5-7 and was inconclusive. In the movie, Mark died in the Wilderness.
The Battle of Bull Run
I went to Manassas which was the location of the Battle of Bull Run. This was the first major battle of the Civil war. The Union had to retreat due to untrained soldiers. In the movie we saw Malachi run away from the battle.
Ford's Theatre
I was at Ford's Theatre which was the location of the assassination of Abraham Lincoln. John Wilkes Booth Assassinated Lincoln during a showing of Our American Cousin on April 14, 1865. In the movie, we saw Lincoln die in the theatre.
Harpers Ferry
This day I went to Harpers Ferry. Harpers Ferry was the location of John Brown's raid. He went to the armory in the town to get weapons for a slave revolt. In the movie we saw John Brown's trial in the town where he was sentenced to be hung.
Antietam
I went to Sharpsburg Maryland where the Battle of Antietam was fought. The Battle of Antietam was the first major battle fought on Union land. It was the bloodiest single-day battle in American history. In the movie, John got nightmares after the Battle of Antietam.
Gettysburg
I went to Gettysburg Pennsylvania. One of the biggest battles of the Civil War was fought in Gettysburg from July 1-3. The battle had the largest number of casualties out of all the battles in the Civil War. It was considered a turning point in the war. In the movie we saw Lincoln give the Gettysbur...
Elmira
First, I went to the town of Elmira which had a Union prison in it that held Confederate captives. Over 12,100 Confederate soldiers were held there during the camp's active time. About a quater of them died. In the movie Luke was in the Elmira Prison.
